I’m in quite a few Facebook Groups for real estate agents and the other day I saw a super alarming post

Someone said something to the effect of, “I’d love to outsource my marketing, so I can focus on being an agent.”

Wow. Hold up.

When I saw this, I died a little inside, because this agent has been sold a lie, and she doesn’t even know it.

I get it. You’ve been told since the day you got your license to learn your trade, know your market, put service first, and take care of your clients… And that’s true, you do need to do all of that.

…But if you focus on that exclusively, I promise that you’ll be out of business in 5 years.

Yes, I said it.

Let me ask you this…

What keeps a business in business?

  • Cash
  • Sales
  • Leads
  • Traffic

And where does traffic come from?

Marketing.

It all starts with your marketing.

So you are a marketer, who’s product is real estate.

It wasn’t always like this…

It’s true. We live in a very unique period in time where the Internet has forced this change.

Whether we like it or not.

All local businesses have this exact same problem…you are not alone.

Since the beginning of time, people could focus solely on their trade, because they always had foot traffic.

But that’s not the case today.

How did people find things before the Internet?

They browsed.

They went to the mall.

They shopped around.

They made a day out of it.

It was fun!

But how do people find things now?

They don’t browse, they search.

No one wanders around aimlessly looking for things anymore.

And the chances of someone stumbling across your business are actually pretty rare.

Just like the mall, people used to stumble into brokerages, open houses, and listings. These days, everyone has the MLS right on their phones, so there’s almost zero possibility of getting leads through happenstance.

Your lead generation needs to be intentional.

Times have changed, you need to put marketing first!

Of course, you also need to be a good Realtor®

But to get traffic, leads, and sales… You need to be a darn good marketer too.

Put yourself out there in order to be found.

Some of you guys are AMAZING agents, but because no one can find you online, your leads are hiring your competition instead.

Because your competitor is a better marketer than you.

If you honestly feel that you are the best agent in your market you OWE IT to your residents to build an online presence!

You won’t be in business in 5 years

The bad news is that, arguably, you need to be a better marketer than Realtor®, because it’s almost impossible to get leads these days without being intentional about your marketing.

If you don’t, you will find yourself out of business.

It’s the reality of today’s world.

But…

The good news is that you can now be 100% responsible for your lead generation.

And if you learn how to do all this now, you’ll be an early adopter, which puts you leaps and bounds ahead of your competitors.

After all, this change is inevitable, so I’d rather master it now and be THE Community Influencer® in my market than to wait until everyone else follows suit and you become just another number in a countless sea of agents.
