Tall Poppy Syndrome
In Australia, there’s a term called “Tall Poppy Syndrome.”
It’s an old saying that comes from the way that poppy flowers grow in a field. When poppies grow, they’re supposed to grow uniformly, all at the same time.
And if one poppy grows taller than the rest, it has to be cut down, so it’s the same size as the others.
In America, we have a similar term. Have you ever seen that episode of Friends where Phoebe’s says, “he’s your lobster?”
That’s the same thing. When lobsters are in a bucket, one will try to get out of the bucket to escape, but it can’t because the other lobsters in the bucket are pulling it back down.
Are You The Tallest Poppy?
So now, I want you to think…
In what areas are you terrified of being the tallest poppy?
How are you letting the lobsters pull you down?
Are you afraid to accept real estate awards, because it makes others feel bad?
Are you afraid to meet local businesses owners, because you’re shy?

The Secret to How I Learned To Reverse Tall Poppy Syndrome
1) I Realized My Why
My Why is Serving my Community.
It’s more important for me to help you succeed than it is for me to remain comfortable.
If you ever have doubts about putting yourself out there, just remember that there’s someone who you could have helped, but because you were too scared, that person chose your competition (who’s not as good as you). And that’s not a good feeling.
2) I Put Progress Over Perfection
I stepped in front of the camera (scared to death), but I did it to become the face of my brand.
And it’s all because progress is always better than perfection.
Comfort is the enemy of success.
It’s more important to push yourself outside of your comfort zone and get results than to remain safe and unsuccessful.
Comfort will kill your business.
To do this, I practiced and practiced and practiced again until I felt comfortable. I still get a little stage fright before I step in front of the camera. But now, since I do it so much, it’s no big deal. I actually really enjoy it!
3) I Invested In Coaching
One of the biggest benefits of investing in a Business Coach is that the coach will reveal your blind spots.
A coach can work with you to uncover the areas where you have mental blocks and limiting beliefs.
Once I understood where these blocks and limiting beliefs were, I was able to consciously overcome them.
I’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars on coaching, and it has been the biggest catalyst that’s helped me to move the needle in my business.
